[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] According to a report by Reuters on the 5th, citing anonymous sources, U.S. mobile chip manufacturer Qualcomm is exploring the possibility of acquiring a stake in Intel’s design business amid the latter's struggles due to poor performance.

One source mentioned that Qualcomm's management is reviewing Intel's entire design business, with particular interest in the client PC design segment. However, another source noted that Qualcomm does not see it as reasonable to pursue Intel's other divisions, such as the server segment.

These sources indicated that Qualcomm has been developing plans to acquire parts of Intel’s business over the past few months, but emphasized that Qualcomm's interest and acquisition plans are not yet finalized and could still change.

An Intel spokesperson confirmed that there has been no contact from Qualcomm regarding a potential acquisition and stated that Intel remains fully committed to its PC business.

Qualcomm declined to comment.
