[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Nexon executives have issued a formal apology over allegations of probability manipulation in the popular idle game MapleStory Idle, which was released in November last year.

Kang Dae-hyun and Kim Jung-wook, co-CEOs of Nexon Korea, posted a notice on the official MapleStory Idle website on Jan. 26, stating, “We sincerely apologize for causing great disappointment to our users.”

They acknowledged that from Nov. 6 to Dec. 2 at 6:27 p.m., a period of nearly one month, the maximum values of ability options in the game did not appear as previously disclosed. “The relevant department identified the issue on Dec. 2 and implemented a corrective patch without prior notice to users,” the statement said.

The co-CEOs emphasized that “any changes made during game service operations should be communicated transparently to users,” adding that “this is clearly the company’s responsibility, and we offer our sincere apologies on behalf of Nexon.”

Ability options refer to additional attributes applied to in-game characters. These options can be randomly reset by consuming “Honor Medals,” a paid in-game currency. Following the game’s launch, users raised concerns that even after repeatedly resetting abilities, the maximum possible values never appeared, sparking controversy over potential manipulation of probabilities.

Regarding compensation, Nexon Korea announced that all users who consumed Honor Medals to reset abilities during the affected period will receive a 100% refund of the used items. In addition, users who purchased the currency with real money will be compensated with 200% of the amount spent.
