[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul, October 13 — Naver plans to overhaul its news comment system by introducing an AI-based “Malicious Comment Index” to combat comment manipulation and mass voting on political articles.

Under the new policy, comments on political news will be hidden by default, and users must manually click “View All Comments” to access them. If the “malicious comment index” or like/dislike activity exceeds a set threshold, Naver will automatically disable comments or switch sorting to “latest.”

The system is modeled after Yahoo! Japan’s AI moderation framework and follows a series of manipulative campaigns linked to organized online groups.

Naver said it detects about 60 abnormal engagement cases and removes 15,000–20,000 harmful posts monthly through its content removal system.
