[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, November 14 — Kakao has been hit by allegations of executive misconduct after an anonymous post on workplace forum Blind claimed that a company executive forced employees to work at the executive’s daughter’s wedding. The controversy has grown as the executive belongs to Kakao’s CA Council, the group’s top control tower responsible for trust, compliance, and responsible management.
The executive, a former prosecutor who previously held senior roles at Samsung Electronics and Samsung Life Insurance, joined Kakao in May last year. He also serves on Kakao’s Compliance and Trust Committee, established to strengthen internal controls following a series of ethics scandals in 2023 involving Kakao Mobility fees, alleged stock price manipulation in the SM Entertainment acquisition, and stock-option misuse by former executives.
Despite these reforms, the latest incident suggests internal controls at Kakao remain insufficient.
