[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul, October 2 – Samsung Electronics is reportedly set to unveil its highly anticipated dual-folding “Tri-Fold” smartphone later this month at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Gyeongju.
The launch event, to be held in front of world leaders and global dignitaries, is expected to serve as a stage for Samsung to showcase its technological edge in the emerging tri-fold smartphone market, where Chinese rivals have already made the first move.
Industry sources anticipate that Samsung will reveal the physical device at the APEC summit and officially launch it in the market in November. The company had previously announced at its July Galaxy Unpacked event that the Tri-Fold phone would debut within the year.
Although Samsung pioneered the foldable smartphone category with the world’s first commercially available Galaxy Fold, it has recently faced increased competition from Chinese manufacturers. Huawei, for instance, released its tri-fold model, the Mate XT, earlier this year.
Samsung’s Tri-Fold, however, is expected to feature a dual in-folding design, with both side panels folding inward around the central main display — a structure that offers superior durability compared to the Z-shaped “accordion-style” fold used by Huawei.
When unfolded, the Tri-Fold phone is expected to offer a nearly 10-inch display, with a 6.5-inch cover screen on the exterior. It will reportedly be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and feature a 200MP main camera, 10MP telephoto lens, and 12MP ultra-wide camera, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 setup.
With the Tri-Fold, Samsung aims to reaffirm its technological leadership in the foldable market while strengthening its premium smartphone brand image globally.
