[Alpha Biz= Ellie Kim] SEOUL, June 12 — South Korean prosecutors have conducted search and seizure operations targeting a facilities official at a U.S. military base in Korea over alleged bribery and procurement fraud.
According to the Gunsan branch of the Jeonju District Prosecutors’ Office on June 11, authorities raided the residence of a man in his 50s and offices linked to the United States Air Force 8th Fighter Wing.
The suspect is accused of accepting bribes from a supplier between 2021 and 2023 in exchange for inflating procurement prices. Prosecutors allege he arranged for materials to be purchased at more than double their actual cost and shared the profits.
Investigators said the official handled approximately 12.4 billion won ($9 million) in transactions across more than 160 deals, receiving around 2.4 billion won in kickbacks.
To avoid detection, the suspect allegedly instructed the supplier to set up multiple shell companies to disguise the transactions.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities examine potential violations including breach of trust and bribery.
