[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] INCHEON, Oct. 17 — A fatal industrial accident occurred at KG Steel’s Incheon plant, where one subcontracted worker was killed and another injured after being struck by a falling heavy object, authorities said Thursday.

According to the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency, the accident took place at 11:23 a.m. at the KG Steel facility located in Seo-gu, Incheon. Two workers in their 40s, identified only as A and B, were hit by a heavy load that fell during a crane operation inside the plant.

Worker A died at the scene, while Worker B was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Both were employed by a subcontractor working within the plant.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when a heavy object being lifted by an overhead crane fell unexpectedly.

The Jungbu Regional Employment and Labor Office has ordered a suspension of operations at the site and plans to investigate the case for possible violations of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and other related labor safety regulations.
