[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] A worker was killed in an industrial accident at a steel manufacturing plant in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, prompting an investigation by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

According to the ministry’s Pohang office, a man in his 40s was fatally injured at around 10:13 a.m. on March 11 while unloading pipes at Aju Besteel, a steel products manufacturer located in Nam-gu, Pohang.

Authorities said a bundle of pipes slipped from a fiber rope while being unloaded by a crane, falling onto the worker and trapping him underneath. He was taken to a hospital but later died.

The labor office has ordered the suspension of operations at the site and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
