[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] AMD CEO Lisa Su is set to visit South Korea next week as global competition in artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors intensifies.

According to industry sources on March 11, Su will travel to South Korea on March 18, marking her first visit to the country since becoming AMD’s CEO in 2014.

During the trip, Su is expected to meet Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon to discuss potential cooperation. Industry observers also say a meeting with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong could take place.

The discussions are likely to focus on high-bandwidth memory (HBM), a key component in AI accelerators. Industry sources believe Su may seek to expand HBM supply for AMD’s AI chips.

Samsung recently began mass production of HBM4, the sixth-generation high-bandwidth memory, positioning itself in the next-generation memory market.

Samsung is known to supply HBM to Nvidia and has also provided earlier generations of HBM to AMD. If AMD adopts HBM4 for its next-generation AI accelerators, industry analysts say Samsung could remain a key supplier.

Su is also expected to explore cooperation with Naver, which is expanding its AI infrastructure and data center capacity as part of its sovereign AI strategy.
