[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] South Korea’s auto parts supplier Hyundai Mobis is reportedly seeking to sell its bumper business as part of a broader effort to focus on future technologies such as electrification and robotics.

According to industry sources on March 15, Hyundai Mobis put its bumper business up for sale earlier this year. The assets include overseas production facilities and sales operations in North America, China, and Europe, with the deal estimated to be worth several hundred billion won.

The company previously halted bumper production in South Korea and currently manufactures the components only overseas, meaning labor issues such as employment succession are unlikely to arise during the sale process.

The move is viewed as part of Hyundai Mobis’ strategy to move away from internal-combustion engine parts and strengthen its position in future mobility technologies, in line with the broader **Hyundai Motor Group strategy to become a “physical AI” leader.

Hyundai Mobis has recently been restructuring its business portfolio around next-generation automotive technologies, including software-defined vehicles (SDVs), automotive semiconductors, and robotics, aiming to evolve from a traditional parts supplier into a global mobility technology company.

The company is also pursuing the sale of its lamp business, having signed a memorandum of understanding in January with French automotive supplier OPmobility, with the goal of reaching a final agreement in the first half of this year.
