[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] TVING has issued an apology following criticism that a promotional poster for its original series Dear X closely resembled a Chinese film poster.

In a statement released on the 10th, TVING said, “We belatedly recognized the similarity between the Dear X launch poster and certain reference materials, and immediately suspended its use. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by our lack of careful oversight during the production process.”

Dear X is based on a popular webtoon and directed by Lee Eung-bok, best known for Mr. Sunshine and Guardian: The Lonely and Great God. The series stars actress Kim Yoo-jung as Baek A-jin, a celebrated actress concealing a cruel secret behind her glamorous image.

The recently unveiled poster featured Kim Yoo-jung staring through a ripped “X” motif. Shortly after its release, online commentators pointed out its resemblance to the 2017 Chinese film The Devotion of Suspect X. Following these concerns, TVING confirmed it had withdrawn the poster.

TVING added, “We will strengthen our review processes to ensure such issues do not occur again.”
