[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, is set to visit South Korea for a two-day, one-night trip starting March 18, where she is expected to pursue broad-based cooperation with Samsung Electronics spanning semiconductors and PCs through a series of high-level meetings.
According to industry sources on March 17, Su will visit Samsung Electronics’ Pyeongtaek campus on the afternoon of March 18. She is scheduled to tour production lines alongside key semiconductor executives, including Vice Chairman Jun Young-hyun, head of the Device Solutions (DS) division, and President Han Jin-man, head of the foundry business.
During the visit, Su is expected to discuss expanding collaboration with Samsung beyond memory into foundry services.
Samsung Electronics has maintained a steady partnership with AMD in the memory segment, supplying HBM3E for AMD’s latest AI accelerators since last year.
With Samsung’s foundry competitiveness recently strengthening, industry observers speculate that AMD may leverage Samsung’s most advanced process nodes to manufacture its next-generation AI chips.
Samsung has already secured major foundry orders from global big tech companies such as Tesla and Qualcomm last year. If AMD is added to its client roster, it could signal a meaningful step toward turning Samsung’s foundry business profitable.
