[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] South Korean police have arrested members of a so-called “revenge-for-hire” criminal ring accused of carrying out acts such as smearing excrement on residential doors and spray-painting abusive graffiti for payment.
On April 2, the Yangcheon Police Station announced that it had detained and referred two suspects—a woman in her 40s and a man in his 30s—to prosecutors on charges including trespassing, property damage, intimidation, and violations of the Information and Communications Network Act.
The suspects allegedly used Telegram to solicit requests from unspecified individuals, offering retaliatory acts in exchange for payment. They are accused of carrying out multiple incidents, including smearing human waste on the entrance of an apartment building in Seoul’s Yangcheon District.
During the investigation, police also uncovered evidence suggesting that the suspects infiltrated a customer support center operated by an outsourcing contractor of Baedal Minjok, where they posed as counselors to illegally obtain customer information and use it to facilitate their crimes.
Authorities had previously referred another member of the group to prosecutors in January. The alleged ringleader, identified by the surname Jung, has also been arrested and is expected to be transferred to prosecutors in the near future.
