[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] More Than 10,000 Subscribers Leave KT on First Day of Early Termination Fee Waiver

More than 10,000 subscribers left KT’s network on the first day the company implemented its early termination fee waiver policy, including users of mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs), according to industry data released on January 1.

A total of 10,142 subscribers left KT’s network in a single day. Of those, 5,784 switched to SK Telecom, while 1,880 moved to LG Uplus. The remaining 2,478 users transferred to MVNOs operating on other carriers’ networks.

Excluding MVNO users, a total of 5,886 subscribers switched from KT to rival mobile carriers in one day alone. Among them, 4,661 moved to SK Telecom and 1,225 to LG Uplus.

Including MVNOs, the total number of mobile number portability cases reached 35,595, more than double the daily average of approximately 15,000.

KT announced during a press briefing on December 30 that it would waive early termination fees—through a refund—for customers who choose to cancel their mobile service contracts by January 13. The policy also applies retroactively to customers who had already terminated their contracts on or after September 1 last year.
