[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Two employees of a subcontractor working for KEPCO KDN have been arrested for allegedly fraudulently claiming and diverting computer maintenance supplies worth about 2.5 billion won ($1.9 million) over several years.

The Cheongju Sangdang Police Station said on March 5 that the two suspects, including a man in his 40s identified as A, were arrested on charges of fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes.

According to police, the suspects falsely claimed computer maintenance consumables worth about 2.5 billion won from KEPCO’s Chungbuk headquarters between January 2019 and February 2024, where they were responsible for maintaining computer systems.

Investigators said the suspects ordered supplies that were not actually needed and then sold the items to other companies for profit after they were procured.

Police launched the investigation after receiving a criminal complaint from the head of the subcontracting company, who became aware of the alleged misconduct.
