[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, South Korea – September 21, 2025 – SK Telecom announced that recent claims by an alleged international hacker group of stealing subscriber data and internal system source code have been confirmed to be false.
The company emphasized that no breach has occurred and that it has reported the incident to the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), and the National Police Agency’s Cyber Investigation Unit.
Earlier this week, a group calling itself Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters 5.0 claimed via Telegram that it had obtained personal information of 27 million SK Telecom subscribers, including user IDs, names, birth dates, phone numbers, addresses, and emails. The group also posted screenshots purporting to show SK Telecom’s internal dashboards and demanded payment in exchange for the alleged data.
SK Telecom confirmed these claims to be fabricated, stating:
“This is a malicious attempt to spread false information, incite public anxiety, and extort money. We take such threats very seriously and are cooperating fully with authorities.”
The company stressed that it maintains the highest standards of data protection and has robust systems in place to safeguard customer information. Authorities are currently reviewing the submitted evidence and conducting on-site inspections to verify the facts.
