[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] A dispute broke out between the original office and subcontractors over responsibility for the spread of the fire in a trial related to the fire at the Daejeon branch of Hyundai Premium Outlet, which caused massive casualties that killed seven workers.

Hyundai Outlet claimed in a trial of charges, including professional negligence resulting in death, held at the Daejeon District Court Criminal Chamber 4 (The senior judge Hwang Jae-ho) on the 19th, "The spread of fire caused by non-operation of fire-fighting facilities is a key factor in the damage."

However, the subcontractor in charge of the fire facility countered, "As the urethane foam burned on the ceiling of the underground parking lot, the fire spread rapidly, so even if the sprinkler was operated, it could not be prevented."

Five officials from Hyundai Outlet and its fire facility subcontractors and two corporations were indicted on charges of not properly managing the safety of the underground parking lot of the outlet in a major disaster in which seven workers were killed and one was seriously injured in a fire on the first basement floor of the Hyundai outlet in Yongsan-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, on Sept. 26 last year.
