[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Hanwha Aerospace announced on the 29th (local time) that it has signed a ₩5.6 trillion (approximately USD 4.1 billion) third export contract with Poland for its domestically developed multiple rocket launcher system, Chunmoo.
Under the agreement, Hanwha Aerospace will supply CGR-080 guided missiles with a range of up to 80 kilometers to the Polish Armaments Agency. The contract was concluded through a consortium with Hanwha–WB Advanced Systems (HWB), a joint venture established in October this year between Hanwha Aerospace and Poland’s defense company WB Electronics.
The signing ceremony will take place at the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw and will be attended by Artur Kuptel, Head of the Polish Armaments Agency; Piotr Wojciechowski, Chairman of WB Group; and Son Jae-il, CEO of Hanwha Aerospace. Also expected to attend are South Korean Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik, First Deputy National Security Adviser Kim Hyun-jong, Defense Acquisition Program Administration Commissioner Lee Yong-cheol, Ministry of National Defense Resource Management Director Won Jong-dae, as well as Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Bejda.
Hanwha Aerospace previously signed a framework agreement with the Polish government in 2022 for the export of Chunmoo launchers and guided missiles. The first contract, signed in 2022, was valued at ₩5.0357 trillion, followed by a second contract worth ₩2.2 trillion in 2024.
This third execution contract is particularly significant as it comes amid the European Union’s push to prioritize the procurement of European-made defense systems through initiatives such as the SAFE (Security Action for Europe) fund, reflecting growing defense bloc formation within Europe.
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz earlier hinted at the deal on social media, stating, “There is very good news for Poland’s security and defense industry. WB Electronics and Hanwha Aerospace are signing a cooperation agreement.”
In October, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung dispatched Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik to Poland as a special envoy for strategic economic cooperation, reaffirming bilateral defense cooperation. During the visit, Kang met with Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz and urged that the local production agreement be finalized within the year.
