[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Following KT and LG Uplus, the government has canceled the allocation of 28㎓ frequency for 5G mobile communication (5G) to SK Telecom.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 31st that it has finalized the cancellation of the 5G 28㎓ frequency allocation, which was notified to SK Telecom in advance, as the opinion hearing process has been completed under the Administrative Procedures Act.

According to the Ministry of Science and ICT, SK Telecom felt heavy responsibility for failing to fulfill the allocation conditions during the hearing.

However, SK Telecom expressed its intention to continue to build and operate subway Wi-Fi that uses 28㎓ of the currently completed background hole with responsibility.

The Ministry of Science and ICT has decided to allow the use of frequencies on subway lines as an exception until Nov. 30, the initial allocation period, considering the public interest aspect of improving public benefits.

The Ministry of Science and ICT is currently seeking to enter new businesses for the 28㎓ band and plans to announce details related to frequency allocation through the announcement of 28㎓ band allocation in the future.
