[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, June 5 — The largest labor union at Samsung Electronics has lost its majority status following a sharp decline in membership after recent wage negotiations.

According to industry data, the union’s membership fell to about 58,000 as of June 4, dropping below half of the company’s total workforce of roughly 129,000 employees.

The decline accelerated after a wage agreement was reached last month, triggering a wave of withdrawals, particularly among employees dissatisfied with performance-based bonus disparities across divisions, including both the Device Experience (DX) and Device Solutions (DS) units.

With the loss of majority status, the union is expected to face challenges maintaining its dominance in future collective bargaining, as it will need to coordinate with smaller unions within the company.
