[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] NVIDIA, the biggest beneficiary of generative AI, has surpassed a market capitalization of $3 trillion. There is growing interest in whether NVIDIA's surge will continue and allow it to overtake Microsoft (MS) as the largest company by market capitalization.

On the 5th (local time) on the New York Stock Exchange, NVIDIA's stock price rose by 5.16% from the previous day to $1,224.40, pushing its market capitalization past $3.011 trillion. This milestone makes NVIDIA the third company in history to reach a $3 trillion market capitalization, following Apple and Microsoft.

With this surge, NVIDIA has surpassed Apple to become the second largest company by market capitalization. Although Apple had reclaimed a market capitalization of $3.003 trillion ahead of its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on the 10th, it was overtaken by NVIDIA. Now, market attention is turning towards MS, which holds the top spot with a market capitalization of $3.151 trillion, putting a $140 billion gap between MS and NVIDIA.

NVIDIA's stock price exceeded $1,000 on the 23rd of last month and has seen a 25% increase over the past ten days. This recent rise is attributed to a surge in investor buying ahead of a 10-for-1 stock split scheduled for the 10th.
