[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] SEOUL, June 2 — KCC Engineering & Construction announced on June 1 that a worker fatality occurred at its Opus Hangang Switzen construction site.
According to the company, a subcontractor worker suddenly collapsed at the site and was transported to a hospital, where the individual later died. No other injuries were reported.
KCC E&C said the exact cause of death remains unknown but is presumed to be multiple cerebral hemorrhages linked to a pre-existing condition.
Both the date of the incident and the report to the Ministry of Employment and Labor were recorded as June 1. The company said it will determine the exact cause following on-site inspections by police and labor authorities.
KCC E&C noted that it is currently unclear whether the case qualifies as a “serious industrial accident” under the Occupational Safety and Health Act. It added that it will issue a revised disclosure if authorities determine that the case does not meet the criteria.
The company also explained that the disclosure was made in accordance with KOSDAQ regulations, as the incident involved a subcontractor worker and was reported to the labor ministry.
