[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, June 2, 2026 — Global sales at Hyundai Motor declined in May, while its affiliate Kia continued its growth momentum for a third consecutive month, reflecting diverging performance within the group.
Hyundai Motor said it sold a total of 325,473 vehicles worldwide in May, including 45,364 units in South Korea and 280,109 units overseas.
The figure represents a 7.7% decline compared to the same period last year, with domestic sales dropping 23.1% and overseas sales falling 4.6%.
In the domestic market, the Grandeur sedan led sales with 5,183 units, followed by the Avante (4,526 units) and Sonata (4,118 units).
Recreational vehicles (RVs) also contributed to overall performance, with the Santa Fe recording 2,862 units, the electric Ioniq 5 2,575 units, and the Tucson 2,183 units.
Meanwhile, Hyundai’s premium brand Genesis maintained steady demand, driven by models such as the G80 (2,220 units), GV70 (1,798 units), and GV80 (1,547 units).
