[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] Tesla (Tesla) said on the 23rd (local time) that it aims to cut 400 employees at the Giga Factory in Germany in Gruenheide, near Berlin, and plans to achieve this through voluntary programs instead of forced layoffs.

"The electric vehicle sales market, which is currently weakening, is also causing Tesla difficulties," Tesla said in a statement. "We are in talks with the plant's labor-management council on job cuts."

More than 12,000 employees work at Tesla's Gruenheide site.

Last week, Tesla said it would lay off about 300 temporary workers, and plans to cut its workforce by about 10 percent worldwide.
