[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] SEOUL, June 2, 2026 — GM Korea reported a decline in both domestic and overseas sales in May, though strong exports of its key models helped maintain overall monthly volume above 40,000 units.

The company said it sold a total of 47,081 vehicles in May, including 808 units in the domestic market and 46,273 units overseas.

Compared with the same period last year, domestic sales fell 42.6%, while exports declined 4.8%, resulting in an overall drop of 5.9%.

In Korea, the top-selling model was the Chevrolet Trax Crossover, with 648 units sold, followed by the Trailblazer (143 units) and the Sierra pickup (15 units).

Exports were led by the Trax Crossover, which recorded 29,988 units in May, accounting for the bulk of overseas shipments. The Chevrolet Trailblazer also posted solid export performance with 16,285 units sold.

Both models are global strategic vehicles developed and produced by GM Korea. In 2025, the two SUVs combined to sell more than 422,000 units in the U.S. market, capturing approximately 43% share of the subcompact SUV segment.

The company’s domestic sales have remained weak, following a 38.8% decline in April, prompting GM Korea to introduce monthly promotional campaigns starting in May to boost local demand.
