[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Reuters reported that the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced on the 22nd that part of the sharp increase in tariffs on Chinese imports, including electric vehicles, semiconductors and medical supplies, will take effect on August 1st.

The Joe Biden administration on the 14th announced a tariff increase of 18 billion dollars in imports from China, including steel, aluminum, semiconductors, electric cars and solar panels, which are worth about 24.6 trillion won, criticizing China's overproduction and unfair trade practices.

The White House said it will impose high tariffs on batteries, semiconductors, solar cells and some medical supplies, as well as raising tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles from the current 25% to 100%.
