[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] YouTube, which beat KakaoTalk at the end of last year, topped the list of domestic application users for three consecutive months. Google apps such as Chrome and Google apps topped the list of users. Global platforms are targeting the home market, with China's Temu topping the list of new app installations for five consecutive months.
According to the mobile index of the big data platform company IGAWorks on the 4th, YouTube's monthly active users (MAU) topped the list with 45,500,941 last month. There were about 300,000 more users than the second-ranked KakaoTalk (45,193,468). YouTube beat KakaoTalk (45,540,367 people) for the first time in December last year with MAU 45645,347 people. In January, MAU 45473,733 people outpaced KakaoTalk (45,249,744 people).
Until May 2020, when the mobile index first began counting, KakaoTalk MAU was 48,272,626, ahead of YouTube (45,285,401) by 3 million. The gap has been maintained since YouTube reversed its user ranking in December last year. As YouTube topped KakaoTalk on MAU for three consecutive months, it has become the most used app in Korea.
Not only YouTube but also other Google-affiliated apps are strengthening their influence in the domestic market by ranking high in the number of users. In February, YouTube ranked first, Chrome fourth, and Google app seventh on MAU. Three apps ranked in the top 10 in the number of domestic app users. Google-affiliated apps are highly competitive in the mobile sector in conjunction with the Android operating system (OS).
