[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] It is heard that Samsung Electronics has suspended some of its work to adjust the schedule for the construction of its fifth semiconductor plant (P5) in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.

According to industry sources on the 2nd, Samsung C&T, which was in charge of the construction of Samsung Electronics' P5 in Pyeongtaek, sent an official letter to its construction partners on the 30th of last month to stop working.

Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek campus is home to both memory semiconductor and foundry (semiconductor consignment production) line facilities, with one to three plants currently in place and four and five plants under construction.

Currently, the 5th plant is under construction, including the construction of the framework of the structure, and it is known to stop the work except for the minimum number of workers. No time has been set for the resumption of construction.

Samsung Electronics explained, "P5 was in the process of basic construction in the early stages for preemptive response. It is a process of flexibly adjusting the schedule."

Samsung Electronics invested 53.1 trillion won in facility investment last year, the largest annual facility investment. Among them, 48.4 trillion won was invested in the semiconductor sector alone.
