[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The MM Haewon Union (Screw Union) announced on the 30th that it has delivered a letter to Han Dong-hoon, chairman of the People Power Party Emergency Response Committee, requesting an end to the sale to Harim Group.

The letter states that Harim Group's excessive attempt to acquire HMM will produce numerous victims and endanger the shipping industry.

The labor union held the first mediation meeting on collective negotiations with the management at the National Labor Relations Commission in Sejong City earlier in the day, but failed to reach an agreement. The labor and management are scheduled to hold the second mediation meeting on the 7th of next month and plan to go on strike after a vote by union members in case of the collapse of the mediation of the National Labor Relations Commission.

The union notified management of the breakdown of collective negotiations on the 16th and applied for mediation to the National Labor Relations Commission. The union is said to have ordered HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to prevent the departure of a new 10,000 3000TEU (1TEU is a 20-foot-long container) ship, which is scheduled to be acquired next month.
