[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hanwha Ocean announced on the 21st that it reduced its deficit compared to the previous year to 196.5 billion won in operating losses last year.

Hanwha Ocean announced on the same day that its sales reached 7.4083 trillion won last year, up 52.4% from the same period last year, and its net profit turned into a surplus of 160 billion won. The operating loss has been reduced to one-eighth. This is due to an increase in construction volume and an increase in sales of profitable LNG carriers.

The merchant marine sector recorded operating loss of 482.8 billion won with sales of 5.818 trillion won. It posted operating profit of 82.1 billion won with sales of 883.4 billion won in the special ship sector, 977.1 billion won in sales in the maritime sector and 146.5 billion won in operating profit. As of the end of last year, Hanwha Ocean's debt ratio was 223.4 percent, down 1319.2 percentage points from a year earlier.

Hanwha Ocean expects the sales portion of the merchant ship sector to expand to 80% this year as the volume of LNG carriers and large container ships increases. In the case of LNG carriers, 22 ships are scheduled to be built this year.
