[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The number of members of Samsung Electronics' labor union, the largest among Samsung Electronics' labor unions, surpassed 20,000.

According to the industry on the 13th, the number of Samsung Electronics Workers' Unions stood at 20,027 as of 4 p.m. on the same day, exceeding 20,000 in just five years since its foundation. This is about 16% of Samsung Electronics' total 124,000 employees.

The number of members of the Samsung Electronics Labor Union remained at 9,000 last year, but exceeded 10,000 at the end of December of the same year when the expected performance-based payment rate was announced. It has more than doubled in three months.

The device solution (DS) division, which runs Samsung Electronics' semiconductor business, was set at 0% of its annual salary last year in the wake of worsening business conditions and sluggish performance. Last year, the DS division had a deficit of 15 trillion won.

As of the second half of last year, the target achievement incentive (TAI) payment rate in the DS sector was 12.5% of the average monthly basic salary, which is half of the first half (25%). In the DS sector, foundry and system LSI divisions are 0%.

The union is currently negotiating wages with the management, focusing on issues of high interest from union members, such as wage hikes and incentives.
