[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] TAG Heuer, the watch brand under LVMH, has been revealed to have leaked personal information of about 2,900 Korean customers due to a hacking incident. The company has subsequently been fined 126 million won in penalties and 7.8 million won in fines.

According to the retail industry on the 16th, TAG Heuer suffered a hacking attack during the process of renovating its website from late 2019 to 2020, resulting in the exposure of customers' personal information such as names, genders, and countries of origin from around the world stored online.

TAG Heuer reportedly did not realize this breach for several years until May last year when it received threats from hackers, prompting the company to report the hacking incident to the Personal Information Protection Commission and notify the affected individuals.

Under the then-applicable Personal Information Protection Act, personal information handlers are required to report such breaches to the Commission and notify users within 24 hours of becoming aware of the breach. TAG Heuer, however, was found to have exceeded this deadline for reporting.

In a full meeting held on February 14th, the Personal Information Protection Commission decided to impose a fine of 126 million won on TAG Heuer, a branch of LVMH Swiss Manufacture, for the personal information leakage, and an additional 7.8 million won for violating obligations related to safety measures and notification.
