[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The 'ST1' model released by Hyundai Motor will be equipped with a rapid charging battery that SK ON recently succeeded in developing.

According to the business community on the 16th, SK On's advanced SF (Super Fast) battery, which was released this year, will be exclusively supplied to Hyundai's first purpose-based vehicle (PBV) ST1. ST1 is a commercial electric vehicle platform launched by Hyundai on the 24th of last month.

Hyundai Motor introduced the PBV as a future food item at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2020 and unveiled the concept vehicle. The ST1, which started selling after four years, was released as a business platform vehicle that can be transformed into ambulances, delivery vehicles, and mobile stores depending on the purpose of use.

The advanced SF battery mounted on the ST1 is a new one this year by improving the performance of the SF battery that SK On unveiled in 2021 by concentrating rapid charging technology. Its core technology is to increase energy density by 9% compared to existing batteries while maintaining rapid charging time. Usually, a 10% increase in energy density increases rapid charging time by 20%, which is minimized. It takes about 20 minutes to increase battery charging based on ST1 from 10% to 80%.

According to Hyundai Motors, the driving distance of the battery (76.1kwh) mounted on the ST1 is 317km on a single charge.

The battery is also on Kia's electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) EV9. ST1 is the first to be mounted on a commercial electric vehicle.
