[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, May 26 — Hanwha Aerospace has increased its stake in Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to over 6%, as part of a broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the space and defense sector.

According to exchange filings, Hanwha Aerospace and related parties acquired an additional 1.05 million shares through open market purchases, raising their combined stake to 6.17%. The company plans to expand its holdings further to around 8% by the end of the year, with a total investment of up to KRW 500 billion.

Hanwha has been steadily accumulating KAI shares since late last year and recently changed its investment purpose from “simple investment” to “management participation,” signaling potential involvement in corporate governance.

The move aligns with Hanwha Group’s long-term ambition to build a “Korean version of SpaceX,” strengthening synergies across its aerospace and defense portfolio.

Separately, Hanwha Solutions revised its planned capital increase to KRW 1.7 trillion, slightly reducing the size while maintaining its overall investment strategy.
