[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Asiana Airlines is further reducing international routes as soaring jet fuel prices—driven by escalating Middle East tensions—continue to pressure operating costs.
According to industry sources on May 3, the carrier has decided to cut five additional flights this month, including routes between Incheon and Changchun as well as Incheon and Yanji in China.
This follows an earlier reduction of 22 round-trip flights across six routes, including Incheon–Phnom Penh, Changchun, Harbin, Yanji, Istanbul, and Almaty. With the latest adjustment, four Incheon–Changchun flights (scheduled for the 20th, 23rd, 27th, and 30th) and one Incheon–Yanji flight (on the 29th) have been canceled.
“As fuel prices have surged due to the Middle East situation, we have implemented minimal route reductions,” the airline said, adding that it will offer alternative flights on nearby dates and waive fees to minimize inconvenience for passengers.
