[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Two employees at Samsung Electronics' Giheung plant were exposed to radiation during work.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) announced on the 29th that it is investigating the radiation exposure incident that occurred on the 27th at the Giheung plant.

The employees, who were working on the production line, were exposed to X-rays on their hands. They visited the National Radiation Emergency Medical Center at the Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences in Seoul's Nowon District with swollen hands. Although they are currently hospitalized and showing symptoms such as erythema and swelling, their general blood tests have returned normal results, according to the NSSC.

The NSSC plans to conduct follow-up monitoring of the affected employees. This will include chromosomal abnormality tests, interviews with the workers, and simulation experiments to accurately assess the exposure dose.

The incident is believed to have occurred when the employees' hands were exposed to radiation while the equipment was in operation. The NSSC has suspended the use of the equipment involved.

Through an on-site investigation, the NSSC aims to identify the exact cause of the accident and will take administrative actions if any violations of the Nuclear Safety Act are found.
