[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] SEOUL, May 26 — According to reporting by Newsis, South Korean police have launched an investigation after personal data of female employees at CJ Group was allegedly traded on Telegram using cryptocurrency.
The report said a Telegram channel containing photos, phone numbers, and job titles of more than 330 CJ Group female employees was circulated and sold through a channel trading platform. The channel, reportedly created in 2023, had around 2,800 participants before being shut down.
The incident came to light after the data was posted on the channel on May 18, prompting CJ Group to file a complaint with police on May 19 over violations of personal data protection laws.
The case has been assigned to the cybercrime investigation unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
