[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] "SK Chemicals, which supplied the undiluted solution of humidifier disinfectant, should compensate 3.6 billion won to Aekyung Industrial."

The court ruled that SK Chemicals should pay about 3.6 billion won to Aekyung Industrial.

The two companies are undergoing civil and criminal lawsuits over the so-called "humidifier disinfectant disaster." SK Chemicals is a company that manufactures humidifier disinfectant undiluted solution. Aekyung Industrial received this undiluted solution and manufactured and sold humidifier disinfectants.

The Civil Affairs Department 30 (Presiding Judge Chung Chan-woo) at the Seoul Central District Court ruled partially in favor of the plaintiff on the 7th, saying, "The defendant should pay 3.64974 billion won to the plaintiff," in a damage suit filed by Aekyung Industrial Co. against SK Chemical Co., Ltd.

Earlier in April 2019, Aekyung Industrial filed a lawsuit seeking 3.6534 billion won, saying SK Chemicals should pay for the two lawsuits filed regarding humidifier disinfectants.

The first lawsuit is a compensation suit filed by the bereaved families against Aekyung, SK Chemicals, and a local humidifier disinfectant distributor in Los Angeles County, California. The second lawsuit was filed by a local U.S. humidifier disinfectant distributor against Aekyung and SK Chemicals for the costs of the lawsuit and the expenses to be paid to the bereaved families based on the results of the trial.

After more than four years of hearing, the first trial court acknowledged most of the charges filed by Aekyung Industrial.
