[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Labor authorities are investigating whether the Act on the Punishment of Serious Accidents, etc. was violated in relation to the recent fatal accident at Hankook Tire's Daejeon plant.

The Daejeon Employment and Labor Office's Metropolitan Severe Accident Investigation Division announced on the 13th that it is investigating whether the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accident Punishment Act were violated in connection with the accident in which a worker in his 50s died at the Hankook Tire Daejeon plant the previous day (12th).

Previously, at around 3:30 pm on the 12th, Mr. A, who was working in the molding process of Hankook Tire Daejeon Plant 1, had an accident due to being caught in machinery. Mr. A was transferred to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest, but died.

The labor union of Hankook Tire believes the management is responsible for the accident. The union claims that A, who did not learn enough work, was forced into the work. On the contrary, Hankook Tire's management says A complied with legal guidelines, including completing legal training on conversion deployment.

A, who worked at Hankook Tire's Daejeon plant 2, took a month off from work after the plant was burned down in March due to fire damage. Since then, A has been assigned to the plastic surgery process at the Daejeon plant 1 in early May and has continued his work.

Meanwhile, labor authorities are considering an order to suspend work at Hankook Tire's Daejeon plant. Hankook Tire has stopped working on its own since the night of the accident.
