[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Samsung Electro-Mechanics said on the 9th that it has been selected as the primary partner of Hyundai Motor and Kia in recognition of its technological prowess in the automotive camera sector.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics plans to supply Hyundai and Kia vehicles with two types of cameras: a surround view monitor (SVM) camera and a rear monitor camera.

The two groups, which have long been considered 'rivals' in the business community, are continuing their collaboration over the automotive electronics business.

In particular, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is the first Samsung affiliate to be selected as the primary partner by Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors since Harman.

The camera module supplied by Samsung Electro-Mechanics this time will be applied to a parking support system that displays the situation around the vehicle in video. Samsung Electro-Mechanics secured visibility and safety by applying a special technique to the lens junction to block unnecessary light inflow.

The market for camera modules for electric devices is expected to grow about 16% annually from $ 4.3 billion last year to $ 8.9 billion in 2027. Samsung Electro-Mechanics plans to supply high-performance products such as advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) and expand its electronic camera module business based on its own technology that designs and manufactures core components such as lenses.
