[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] LS MnM invests 670 billion won to build a nickel sulfate plant in Ulsan.

LS MnM held a board meeting and announced on the 27th that it has approved a plan to invest 670 billion won in a project to produce secondary battery materials on a 95,000㎡ site near the Onsan refinery in Ulsan.

EVBMonic acid is equipped with a mixed water oxide (MHP) refining facility, a nickel intermediate material, and a black mass refining facility that processes waste batteries, and produces nickel sulfate, cobalt sulfate and manganese sulfate, which are key raw materials of the secondary battery precursor.

It will start full-fledged production in early 2027 after starting construction in the first half of next year, and its production capacity of nickel sulfate is 22,000 tons per year (based on nickel metal). Lithium contained in black mass will be recovered from a separate process and lithium hydroxide, a major material for bipolar materials, will be produced.

Through this investment approval, LS MnM expects to expand the nickel sulfate business in earnest and play a pivotal role in establishing a secondary battery material business ecosystem.
