[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Some semiconductor production lines were restored after a power outage occurred at SK Hynix's Cheongju plant in North Chungcheong Province on the 9th.

According to the industry on the 9th, factories such as M11 and M15 located at SK Hynix's Cheongju plant stopped for a while from 4:09 p.m. According to KEPCO and Cheongju City Hall, a power outage occurred when an error occurred during a power inspection of the user's facility in Gagyeong-dong, Heungdeok-gu. SK Hynix is located in Heungdeok-gu.

As the semiconductor process goes through a fine process, all wafers that were made should be discarded even if they were shut down for just one second. Recovery of related equipment also takes hours to days.

An official at the Cheongju plant said, "The equipment cannot be down with a simple instantaneous voltage drop," adding, "If the equipment is dead, it means that there was a power outage even for 0.5 seconds."

An official from the memory semiconductor industry said, "In the case of semiconductor lines, almost all wafers in progress at the time should be discarded except for some processes that can be saved in the event of a power outage."
