[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] DETROIT, November 17 — Ford has partnered with Amazon to launch a new program enabling certified pre-owned (CPO) Ford vehicles to be sold online through Amazon’s platform, signaling deeper collaboration between automakers and e-commerce companies amid intensifying digital competition in auto retail.
Under the partnership, customers can apply for financing, complete purchase documents, and schedule vehicle pickup directly on Amazon, although some final signing steps may still occur at dealerships, Ford said.
This marks Amazon’s second major automotive partnership, following its agreement with Hyundai two years ago to support online new-car sales. Ford’s program differs in that it focuses on CPO vehicles, which undergo manufacturer or dealer inspection, repair, and warranty certification, giving them higher quality assurance than standard used cars.
Ford reported that over 160 of its 2,900 U.S. dealerships have signed up for the program. About a dozen have already launched on Amazon, with around 10 more set to go live next week.
