[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hanwha Ocean said on the 26th that it is building four large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers simultaneously at the first dock of its Geoje plant. It is seen as a move to change the production system to focus on LNG carriers and gain an advantageous position in Qatar's order projects.

Hanwha Ocean's 1 dock is 530m long and 131m wide. It is the world's largest and is known to be able to build various kinds of ships and offshore plants at once. Docks are facilities built in shipyards and ports to build and repair ships. Starting with the first dock, the second dock is also planning to continue construction of LNG carriers starting next year.

Hanwha Ocean plans to build 22 ships next year and 24 ships in a row in 2025, setting a record for the largest number of LNG carriers ever. The company has built the largest number of LNG carriers so far in 2018, totaling 19.

Hanwha Ocean said it currently has a backlog of 65 LNG carriers and plans to place a large-scale LNG carrier order in Qatar soon.
