[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Samsung Biologics has filed a court injunction to halt a planned labor strike, while its union insists it will proceed with a full-scale walkout as scheduled.

According to industry sources on April 2, the company submitted a request to the Incheon District Court seeking a provisional injunction to prohibit collective labor action by its union.

The union, however, strongly rejected the move, stating it will carry out both rallies and strike actions as planned. It criticized the injunction as an attempt to undermine workers’ constitutionally protected right to collective action, arguing that citing continuous production processes as grounds to block a strike would effectively deny that right across many manufacturing industries.

The dispute escalated after collective bargaining negotiations broke down. The union is demanding:

An average wage increase of 14%
A KRW 30 million incentive per employee
Performance-based bonuses equivalent to 20% of operating profit

In contrast, management has proposed:

Wage increases in the 6% range
Performance bonuses at around 10% of operating profit

Despite more than 10 rounds of negotiations, the two sides have failed to reach an agreement. The union is calling for direct talks with top management, while the company maintains its position of continuing negotiations.

Earlier, a strike authorization vote saw more than 95% participation, with an overwhelming majority voting in favor of industrial action.

The union plans to hold rallies and demonstrations throughout April before launching a full-scale strike on May 1 if no agreement is reached.
