[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Struggling with disappointing performance, NCSoft has reported an operating loss for the first time in 12 years, posting a 14.3 billion KRW (approximately $10.7 million) operating loss in Q3 (July-September). This marks NCSoft's first quarterly operating loss since Q2 2012.

According to its Q3 earnings report released on the 4th, NCSoft recorded a consolidated revenue of 401.9 billion KRW, down 5% year-on-year, while shifting to an operating loss. The company attributed the loss to increased marketing activities associated with new game releases and large-scale updates of existing games.

The mobile MMORPG Hoeyn, launched in Q3, fell short of expectations. While Lineage M benefited from new server updates, other titles in the Lineage series saw revenue declines. Although Throne and Liberty (TL), which launched internationally in Q4, ranked highly in major markets, analysts express skepticism about TL’s business model, suggesting limited profitability potential.
