[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] A fierce public relations battle is ongoing between Korea Zinc and the MBK Partners-Yongpoong alliance over the management rights of Korea Zinc.
Lee Je-jung, Vice Chairman of Korea Zinc, along with key technical personnel, strongly opposed the transfer of management rights to MBK Partners, stating that they would resign if the takeover occurs. In response, MBK and Yongpoong promised to do their utmost to ensure job security for Korea Zinc employees and to continue the future growth projects currently underway at Korea Zinc.
During a press conference held on the 24th at the company’s headquarters in Jongno, Seoul, Vice Chairman Lee asserted, “MBK Partners can never manage Korea Zinc,” adding, “If management rights are transferred, all of our technicians will leave.” Approximately 20 core technical personnel from Korea Zinc attended the press conference.
Lee further emphasized, “If speculative forces like MBK Partners take control of Korea Zinc, our core technology will rapidly leave the country. They have no concern for our technology, our future, or the future of our nation.”
