[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] SK Hynix increased research and development (R&D) costs in the second half of last year.
According to SK Hynix's business report on the 21st, the company's R&D investment last year was 4.9 trillion won, up about 21% from the previous year. This is the highest level ever.
R&D ratio of total sales increased from 9.4% to 11%.
Inventory assets also increased significantly as demand for semiconductors plunged due to the global economic downturn.
As of the end of last year, SK Hynix's inventory assets were 15.6 trillion won, up 75% from the previous year.
SK Hynix invested 19.65 trillion won in facility investment last year. The figure is about 47 percent higher than the previous year. However, this year, the company plans to reduce its facility investment by 50% to less than 10 trillion won due to a slowdown in the semiconductor industry, including a drop in memory prices.
