Samsung Electronics surpassed 1,000 male employees' parental leave ... LG and SK also increased

[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] The number of male employees taking paternity leave at Samsung Electronics surpassed 1,000 last year.

According to Samsung Electronics' 2023 Sustainable Management Report on the 30th, a total of 4,364 employees took paternity leave last year, including 1,310 men and 3,054 women.

In particular, the number of male employees on paternity leave has been on a steady rise from 856 in 2020 to 999 in 2021 and 1,310 in 2022, surpassing 1,000 last year.

The return rate after parental leave was 96.5% for men and 98.9% for women. The total number of daycare centers in Korea is 13 and the capacity is 3,078.

LG Electronics and SK Hynix are also seeing a steady increase in the number of men who used parental leave.

LG Electronics increased from 221 in 2021 to 283 last year, and SK Hynix increased from 107 to 130. The proportion of male employees who returned after parental leave was 86.5% for LG Electronics and 91.6% for SK Hynix.

LG Electronics is also expanding the period of parental leave and implementing a shorter working hours during childcare. Ten domestic workplaces operate childcare facilities and breastfeeding facilities, and provide congratulatory and encouraging gifts and management messages to members with elementary school children.
