[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] BTS member Suga has been investigated for riding an electric scooter while under the influence. However, it is unlikely to affect his current social service duty period.

On August 7, the Seoul Yongsan Police Station reported that Suga was booked on August 6 for violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving). Suga was found lying on the road after riding the electric scooter in Hannam-dong. A breathalyzer test revealed that his blood alcohol concentration was at a level that would warrant a license suspension. He was immediately fined and had his license revoked.

The incident is not expected to impact his ongoing social service duties. According to the Military Manpower Administration, actions taken outside official service hours do not affect his service period. An official from the administration explained to Daily Sports, “Misconduct during service hours will result in an extension of service, but actions outside these hours fall under general criminal law.”

According to regulations on prohibited activities and penalties for social service personnel, misconduct such as drinking, gambling, or other disruptions during service hours can lead to a five-day extension of service for each warning. However, these regulations do not apply to incidents outside of official duty hours.

Suga’s agency, Big Hit Music, stated, “On the night of August 6, Suga, wearing a helmet, used an electric scooter while under the influence on his way home. After traveling approximately 500 meters and falling during parking, he was tested by the police, resulting in a fine and license revocation. There was no personal injury or property damage, and he returned home under police guidance.”

The agency also apologized, saying, “We apologize for causing disappointment with this inappropriate behavior. We will accept any disciplinary actions from his service station for this social misconduct.”
